Eastern PA Medcom provides expedient Advanced Life Support (ALS) Communications between ground support ambulances and regional hospitals within the Eastern Pennsylvania Emergency Services Region. All sixteen Hospitals within the Eastern PA Region are linked to the Eastern PA MedCom Communications Center.
Eastern Pa MedCom provides:
Medical Command to both ALS and Basic Life Support (BLS) agencies:
UHF (Ultra High Frequency) Radio
Telephone Communications with hospitals
Provide back up Medical Command to all Sixteen
(16) Regional Command Facilities
ALS Medical Relay Reports - patient report to
receiving hospital
Mass Casualty Incident Communications (MCI)
Ability to link all 16 Regional Command
Facilities [if needed on one frequency]
Alert all Regional Hospitals
Provide incident information to hospital
staff
Alert affected area Hospitals by "Zone"
Alert Council Staff and Medical Directors
Alert Red Cross covering that area
Capable of paging pre-hospital providers with
response instructions
EMS Council Staff paging, alerting and dispatching:
In the event of a major event, Eastern PA MedCom is able to dispatch all EMS Council staff to an incident
Anyone needing to contact EMS Council Staff after hours can contact Eastern PA MedCom for assistance
Recording of all Communications:
Eastern PA MedCom has the ability to record
all Communications that occur through our UHF Radio System
All Communications are recorded onto our
state of the art- "NICE LOG" Digital Voice Logging System
System Utilization Reports
Provide monthly QA/QI (Quality
Assurance/Quality Improvement) to all participating Medical Command
Facilities. QA/QI is done using the Digital Voice Logging System
Assist in the dispatch of Air Medical
Services
Providing Technical support to EMS Agencies
when needed
Outreach Educational Programs
Capability of paging regional Paramedic and
Health Professionals
Post Regional Hospital Diversion Status:
Area hospitals will notify Eastern PA MedCom of their status of handling patients (i.e. Full Divert, Divert due to Equipment Failure, Behavioral Divert and Divert to Internal Disaster).
Requests are routed through the
Communications Center
All information is gathered and forwarded to
our highly skilled Stress Management Team
Provide services 24 hours a day/7 days a
week
Dispatch appropriate "Team Members"
specializing in the area of request
Provide monthly statistical data to the CISM
Committee
Monitor PA Department of Health - "Fred Alert Monitoring System" FRED:Facilities Resource Emergency Database
In the event of a large scale emergency or
MCI, MedCom has the ability to provide information via the FRED System
and gather information from hospitals (i.e. beds, medications and
blood, etc.)
Eastern PA MedCom can then provide all this
information back to Incident Command or person requesting the
information
Monitor PA Emergency Management Agency - "PEIRS Website" Pennsylvania Emergency Incident Reporting Systems
Incidents are reported and recorded
throughout the Commonwealth and placed on the website to advise other
agencies of the incident
Eastern PA MedCom will monitor events and
incidents in our 6 County Region and report them to the Eastern PA
Emergency Medical Services Council
Special Operations Dispatching
Coordinate and dispatch Specialty Teams
throughout the 6 County Region

Leaders throughout the duration of incident
